The 14th Headies Awards went virtual this year and millions of music lovers from around the world joins to catch up with the show.
This year is peculiar as the event which holds every December was moved to February due to uncertainties. However, this did not stop the show from going on.
As earlier, the “What If I say” crooner Fireboy DML was leading with nine nominations. Davido andWurld with seven nominations each, while Burna boy, the previous Artiste of the Year, secured six nominations.
In a forward- looking move , this year also saw the Headies include Songwriter of the Year . With performances from DJ Neptune, Fireboy, and The Cavemen, viewers were treated to a good time . Omah Lay carted home the “ Next Rated ” award.
The Headies (originally called the Hip Hop World Awards ) is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to viewers across Nigeria. Before the pandemic and the decision to go virtual, the 1st and 2nd editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State. Between 2010 and 2012, the awards were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
This year’s event was hosted by comedian Bovi and TV media personality Nancy Isime.
