We’re still stuck in the house, or outside wearing masks, or socially distancing from anyone not in our pods (if you aren’t doing these things, please bookmark this). In other words, we could all use a little personal cheer these days, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
Every week, Okayvibes offers a run-down of significant new releases available and here we compiled this handy list of 9 songs that make us smile this week.
This week’s batch includes new tracks and collaborations from Teni, Rick Hassani, Burno Boy, Niniola, Falz, Mastercraft, Chike and Ajebo Hustlers.
Here we go;
Niniola — Promise
Does the Queen ever disappoint? No, she does not. This latest single is a triumphant reminder of just what a good time she had. This record is you knowing your self worth in a love relationship, appreciating yourself and withdrawing from unending toxic relationship. “I promise you this, will never find someone as loving and peaceful like you”
Burna Boy — Onyeka (Video)
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Burna boy has released a dreamy video of his single “Onyeka”. This sumptuous standout single him for a swirling rumination on the limits of love. It’s gorgeous, just like the rest.
Rick Hassani — Everything
Ric Hassani is prepping for the release of his album “The Prince I Became” which is set for release on February 26.
For the track that kicks off the debut album, the promising singer and song writer Rick Hassani delivers something almost ethereal in its lilting grace.
It all builds to something timeless, a gorgeous introduction to an equally beautiful single from his much awaited album. This is one locale we wouldn’t mind putting down roots in.
Falz – Squander ft. Niniola (Video)
The Bahd Guy, Falz tapped our very own – Niniola for this fantastic remix of his already perfect hyperpop-influenced video. If you weren’t missing the clubs yet, you will be after listening to this.
Chike ft Simi – Running To You
And the other standout song featured on the soundtrack is this smooth collaboration that’s radiating warmth and romance. It just hits so right.
Lil Tjay Ft. 6LACK – Calling My Phone
You can’t start a fire without a spark, and you can’t not break into an enormous smile when you hear “I ain’t tryna play these games no more, I don’t wanna be textin’ your name no more, I ain’t tryna feel this pain no more, And I’m sorry, but my feelings ain’t the same no more.”
There’s so much here that sparks joy from its inimitably synth riffs to its catchy hook to the relatable lyrics explained on a phone call but mostly, it’s just the very idea of the song itself – that when everything gets to be too much, all you have to do is turn up the volume, turn out the lights, and dance it out in the dark while describing what’s going in your mind out. (try it, I highly recommend it).
Young Thug Ft. Meek Mill & T-Shyne – That Go!
It’s the first song I happened to be listening to as I was riding through the streets of Abuja on valentine day on my and a friend called to tell me about his day.
The line “Go gеt this bitch some new purses, cool I swipе my card, I don’t fill it She had a lame, she healin’ Now she on a plane, she chillin’ And she post a pic on the ‘Gram, you feel it?” cut right through me because it was truly a new day for us after so many failed attempts; I was so grateful I could’ve very well fell to my knees. The song will always hold a special place in my heart and I hope it does to you as well.
Teni ft Davido – For You (Video)
Teni and Davido take a bouncy track with a positive message about keeping your head up — to new heights with remix assists from Davido. The song will put a smile on your face and give you something to dance to.
Ajebo Hustlers ft Omah Lay – Pronto (Video)
There is cowbell. There is yelping alongside yow!-ing. There are beaming harmonies and sunny harmonics. “Pronto” is Ajebo Hustlers at peak brightness, peak joy; in these few minutes is more to move your ass than to kick it. When you feel this song from across! the room, your Friday night suddenly begins, any day of the week.
